The Process Begins
Jan. 5, 2009
At first packing seems pretty cut and dry. After all, this isn’t the first time I’ve pulled up my roots to begin again. However, at this point in my life, I am determined to LIVE LIGHTLY. That means letting go of as much clutter as possible. With so large a task ahead of us I do what I usually do, make a list and allocate chores. Anything to allow myself to feel I have some sense of control during a time of chaos.
Robert brings home multiple sized boxes, bubble wrap and rolls of tape. I pick up indelible black markers, labels and colored dot stickers. Our plan is to take the necessities and to leave the house fully furnished for the potential future renters. That means we will live for awhile with the minimal furniture provided by Judy, an Air Mattress, a card table and two folding chairs, and a borrowed TV.
I begin to think about what the necessities for living are; kitchen utensils, sheets, and towels. Robert determines how we will transport our cars. We book plane tickets for us and our cats, so they don’t have to travel in cargo. I think of all my possessions to sort through and realize all I really need to begin my new life in CA is my husband and my cats.
