All That Baggage

Jan. 6, 2009

A POD is a temporary storage space that is transportable. At different times in my life, my varying storage spaces have been anything but temporary. Being an artist and a writer there is always merchandize that I feel I must have for business reasons or for inspiration.

This POD holds our stuff, some of my in-laws stuff and some of my parents stuff.  What’s in here seemed necessary to KEEP at the time. Four years later, I wish someone had taken a match to it long before so I would not have to deal with it now. I am wondering why I hold onto some things for too long, and why I find some of them so hard to let go of.  It must be fear, as if my possessions can give me some feeling of grounding or security. Until now it’s been an unconscious choice. If I am to change myself and my environment, and follow through on my pledge to LIVE LIGHTLY, I must learn to trust more and that means I must let go more.

I find the alternative solution to a bonfire: a very large dumpster, phone calls to friends and relatives, multiple visits to local charities, the library and a few listings on Craig’s list.
