Helpful Friends to Listen
Jan. 21
The phone rings. It’s my oldest friend Shelley, a best friend since we were four. I talk for a few minutes about my parents with her because she knew them so well. I tell her about the contents of the two memorabilia boxes. I hesitate to tell her about my mother’s sandals, but I do.
She suggests I keep everything if it makes me feel better. I decide to sleep on it and pray that an answer will come to me. But I already know in my heart that letting go of my grief and passing on some of these items is what I need to do. That night I dream of both my parents, I feel comforted.
