A Little Nurturing Helps
April 26, 2009
I was exhausted from a week of doing and striving and needed some real down time. While time to veg out in front of the TV or curl up with a good book would have helped, what I really needed was a little TLC. My friend Beth heard this in my voice and said “come over here for awhile, I’ll take good care of you.”When I got there, she invited me to lie down in her sunny second bedroom, covered me with a fluffy down comforter and offered me a big, hot cup of tea. She rested at the end of the bed and we talked for about two hours. Listening to each other’s stories and nurturing each other through the process. It made no difference what was going on in the world outside of us. We knew tomorrow would come soon enough. For today we were providing each other with sustenance to give us strength to deal with tomorrow. When the world feels as if it’s spinning too fast, try asking a friend for a little loving attention. I’ve found that giving and receiving comfort are the most valuable part of a genuine friendship. Find Something to Feel Good About Everyday!
