Taking Time To Notice

Here’s Something To Feel Good About Today…

The line at the post office was about twenty people deep despite the fact that I intentionally arrived after 4:00pm. Watching the flood of people overflowing into the hallway I noticed a sea of grim faces. I suddenly y realized I was one of them. Impatient and annoyed at this inconvenience, I wondered if it would be best to leave and come another time. Reluctantly, I decided to wait, telling myself it was a lesson in patience, but I wasn’t happy.

The line moved at a snail’s pace. Just as I entered the main room one of the postal clerks noticed that I was holding a pink claim slip. He smiled at me and spoke to the crowd, “If there’s anyone here picking up a package go to the far window, I’ll get someone to help you right away.”

Astonished I bypassed everyone, and before leaving with my package, I approached the clerk.

“I just want to thank you”, I said.

“It was nothing,” he replied.

Smiling I responded, “I really appreciate that you take the time to scan the room to see who you can help. You’re very kind and I thank you.”

It’s important that we take the time to notice others and demonstrate kindness whenever we can.

A small gesture on your part, may be part of a solution for someone else.
