Here’s Something To Feel Good About Today…

We sat close to each other in the booth as we shared our Chinese food. My dear friend is going through a major transition, and desperately wants to end her long term marriage. She admits she has been unhappy for most of that time and after years of counseling and recent anti depression medications has finally made her decision.

Although she knows she is supported by friends and family her turmoil is palpable. After several long hugs I asked her “so what’s holding you back from a trial separation?” Advising that she simply try one step at a time to move toward whatever will make her happy.

“I’m terrified” she said. I empathized and asked her how she will feel a year from now or two or five if she doesn’t take positive action for herself? I reminded her that time will pass whether she claims her happiness or not and assured her that she had every right to be happy.

Look around you, there is isn’t one person who is not afraid of something. Everyone has their fears, the question for each of us is whether or not we will let our fears and doubts over power us or we will find our power by overcoming them?

Whether you walk very slowly or crawl if you have to, begin today to step toward what frightens you. Facing our fears and not running from them transforms and frees us. It’s the only way to find happiness.
