Here’s Something To Feel Good About Today…

On my way to do a few errands, I passed a homeless man begging on the side of the road. He looked about forty. His scraggly beard, over sized filthy clothes and the small pile of belongings by his side, told me he had been displaced for a very long time. I handed him a $10.00 bill and he said, “God Bless You.” “Same to You,” I replied and drove away.

Watching him grow smaller through my rear view mirror, I thought about what could have brought him to this place. He had a mother, but did he have a mother’s love? Was he mentally ill or an addict? Did he once have a “normal” life and circumstances changed over which he had no control?

Have you ever passed a homeless person and dismissed them feeling there is nothing you can do to help? Have you found yourself passing judgment without knowing anything about them? I know I used to, but something changed inside me when I realized this can happen to any one of us.

Today I pray for those I can’t help and thank god for the life I have. I don’t have the answers but perhaps a hand out can save a life and our prayers and signs of compassion can make a difference. In any case, it’s worth a try.
