Joy at Every Age

Here’s Something to Feel Good About Today…

I read somewhere that we are most ourselves around age eleven. At that young age we are usually already involved in what we really love to do. As time passes, we sometimes forget what brings us joy instinctually and begin to rely more on our thoughts to guide us rather than following our hearts and doing what feels joyful.

As we go through life we often set aside the things that made us happiest. We may listen too often to other people’s opinions, settle more often for the practical and then wonder why we don’t feel passionate about our lives.

Today I felt bogged down by too many responsibilities and all the unfinished tasks mounting on my desk began to overwhelm me. After several hours of heaviness, I left my desk, wrapped my IPOD around my upper arm, grabbed my helmet and went for a bike ride. In just a few minutes, the music alleviated my tension and the fresh air did wonders for my mood. Eleven again, I felt free and joyful. An hour later I was back to work in a completely different frame of mind.

Think back to age eleven, what brought you joy? No matter how old you are, you can still feel that sense of happiness. Meet yourself at that earlier age, engage in an activity you enjoyed doing then, you may be surprised that something’s never change.
