Reconciling The Past

Here’s Something To Feel Good About Today!

Years ago I let a really good friendship die. I made choices I am not proud of influence my decisions and never looked back as to how this could have affected the other person. In my mind, I had simply moved on do to circumstances in my life.

Then the unexpected happened; life brought us back together and I am being given an opportunity to readdress my past, make amends and take responsibility for my actions. Now, listening to her point of view so many years later, I am finding it very painful to hear her truth. I never realized how much I had hurt my friend when I abandoned our friendship. I know that if we are to have a future friendship, we must first heal our past relationship.

It’s never too late to make amends and to ask forgiveness. Healing begins with a willingness to be humble and to listen. It is as much for ourselves as for those we hurt that we reconcile the past. My apology is long overdue, but with compassion and understanding there is now hope for the future.

Is there someone or something from your past that needs healing? You can turn your back and walk or run away, but sooner or later it will tap you on the shoulder until you face it and allow the healing to begin. It may be painful but the past must be reconciled in order to find a brighter future.
