The Courage of Letting Go
Here’s Something To Feel Good About Today!
“All the art of living lies in a fine mingling of letting go and holding on.” – Havelock EllisIf only it were easier to know when to hold on and when to let go. Does the dandelion have its own sense of timing or does it take a stiff breeze to spread its seeds? Whether we let go voluntarily or wait until we are forced, the lesson remains the same; hold on to everything with a lighter touch. It’s less painful to let go when we choose to, than have it forced upon us.
I have held on to people and situations long after they served their purpose. I’ve stoked the fire of disappointment and anger when it was necessary to forgive. I’ve stayed at jobs out of a sense of loyalty to others, because I had not yet learned that my first loyalty was to my own happiness. I have grasped and clung because I was afraid to face my fears and terrified to feel the void that sometimes comes with letting go. Through it all I have learned that empty space is good and necessary and that for the new and the fresh to begin, I must be willing to take the risk of letting go.
So try and reach out your hand more often and hold on with a lighter touch. While the letting go may still be painful, there is always a price for holding on too long. Trust that freedom and possibility come to meet you, when you have the courage to let go. The question is are you willing to take a chance, face the unknown and trust that good things are coming your way?

You are so right Marlene, Many times we hold on to things much after they have served their purpose. I guess that is the human nature of attachment, we feel attached to simple things in life be happy for they being their and sad when we loose them. But the courage to let go does not happen for all, they often connect unknown to unhappiness.
