“The difference between an adventure and an ordeal is attitude.” Bob Bitchin

When we decided to move 3,000 miles across country to begin a new life I considered it an amazing adventure! While several close friends agreed with me, a few others saw it in a very different light. One in particular expressed doubts and fear, posing all kinds of questions, many to which I could not possibly answer yet.

She began with, “Are you sure you want to do this, it’s very difficult to make new friends at this stage in our lives and it’s not wise to move without jobs in this economy.” By the end of our conversation I was feeling like my splendid adventure had become her ordeal. It was clear that we each saw the same journey from completely different perspectives. The main difference was that I trusted in the unknown and had faith that with a positive attitude, all good things would happen.

I believe the outcome of every situation depends a great deal on how you approach it. There will always be road blocks. You can chose to see them as obstacles or as challenges. If you let your doubts and fears hold you back, life can feel like one ordeal after another. If you walk with confidence and faith, it can be a bold and daring adventure. If you have a story on how your personal attitude has transformed what might have been an ordeal into an adventure, please share it.
