Seeing the Best

Here’s Something To Feel Good About Today!

“Judgements prevent us from seeing the good that lies beyond appearances.” Dr. Wayne Dyer

Today was a bad hair day. As if that weren’t enough, I began to look for and find all the other parts of myself that are less than perfect. Before long the bags under my eyes looked puffier, the skin around my neck seemed looser and I wondered why all those stomach crunches hadn’t worked at all. In just a few minutes, I had made myself very unhappy. I know better, and yet I had fallen into an old behavioral pattern of self criticism that clearly does not serve me.

Every day, I meet countless women who view themselves in the mirror and see the worst in their reflections. They complain about their excess pounds , the width of their hips, their protruding bellies, and anything else they can find to make themselves feel less than. Most of them don’t realize that critical self talk casts a negative shadow on our self image that when repeated over and over takes a toll on our self esteem.

None of us are perfect. When we stop judging ourselves by some unattainable standard, we can appreciate all the good there is to see in ourselves and in others. No matter what we look like on the outside, when we let our inner light shine we are all beautiful.
