Process Creates Results

Here’s Something To Feel Good About Today!

“Patience and fortitude conquer all things.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

A few years ago I had an amazing experience that I will never forget. It was led by a spiritual shamanic teacher who practiced rituals he learned from an American Indian friend. In a candle lit room, myself and several of his students were asked to walk around a labyrinth. First, with his careful instruction, we each took part in creating it, weaving a thin rope around what was by day an average classroom. Then each of us took our turn in silence walking the labyrinth. Afterwards we shared our thoughts and feelings.

I remember looking down at my feet, simply putting one foot in front of the other very slowly. There was no way I could see the final destination while watching my feet. Nor could I determine where the path would lead or how long it would take to complete. I had to stay focused and just keep walking. At times the rope narrowed and my steps became shaky and uncertain. When I began to think about reaching the end of the labyrinth, the process became harder. Only when I let go and trusted the process was I at peace.

Eventually, my steps led back to where it all began, the beginning of the labyrinth. There was no context of time or place or results, it was all about being in the moment and going with the process.

Every worthwhile endeavor takes time, focused effort and faith. When you are looking for results, the creative process can seem excruciatingly slow. Sometimes you may feel as though no progress is being made at all. Remember the lessons of the labyrinth, stay in the process, focus on small steady steps, be patient, and know that results will come with faith, in the perfect time.

  1. I love that concept Marlene. I think that is a beautiful philosophy on life accomplishments. We can do great things with persistence and time.
