Enjoying Nature

Here’s Something To Feel Good About Today!

“To find the universal elements enough; to find the air and the water exhilarating; to be refreshed by a morning walk or an evening saunter… to be thrilled by the stars at night; to be elated over a bird’s nest or a wildflower in spring – these are some of the rewards of the simple life.” ~John Burroughs

Twice a week I hike with a friend through rolling hills in Northern California. It never fails to amaze me how glorious the landscape is; how the same paths take on different nuances depending upon the time of day. A field mouse that would horrify me scampering through my kitchen barely fazes me as it grazes my sneaker. I am in awe of the family of quails, the babies scurrying beneath the brush. Further up the trail we glimpse a fawn and its mother, moving deeper into the woods as she hears us approach. An hour and a half goes by, we chat, but mostly we walk together, observe and immerse ourselves in the sounds and scents of or surroundings.

Of all things man made, man has never made anything quite as miraculous as what nature provides to us all. When was the last time you immersed yourself in nature? It just may be the best and easiest way to simplify a complicated life.

  1. Sounds like you had a great time hiking. You are so right about finding the simple life in nature. It’s free too which is a real bonus especially in times like these.

I’m in the fitness industry so I love to hear you say you walked for over an hour and loved it. Walking with someone makes the time fly by.

    I really like your blog!
