Create Joy, Every Day
Here’s Something To Feel Good About Today!
“Joy is the feeling of grinning inside.” Melba Colgrove
It sounds really corny but after you read the lyrics to the song “My Favorite Things” from the Musical “The Sound of Music,” you may realize that it’s almost impossible to feel down when you think about your “favorite things.”
A few of mine are; hot fudge sundaes, the sound of wind chimes, clouds drifting past a brilliant full moon, a flock of birds flying in formation, the sweet scent of fresh basil, the feel of cashmere, whipped crème on a warm dessert, and of course whiskers on kittens. The more I think about it the longer my list becomes.
We all have countless sights, sounds, scents and sensations that delight us. We can take them for granted, or we stop for a few minutes to appreciate them. It’s a great idea to make a list of what brings you joy, and place it at the top of your gratitude list. When you’re feeling down, experiencing a disappointment, or grieving a loss, life’s simple pleasures are within reach. You can create joy, simply by remembering them.
Musical “The Sound of Music” – My Favorite Things Lyrics
Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things
Cream colored ponies and crisp apple streudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things
Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things
When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I’m feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don’t feel so bad
