Stay Sane, Reduce Holiday Stress: Pass-Along Tip #1
“A beautiful thing is never perfect.” Proverb quotes

Take a good look at this famous illustration. What comes to your mind as you prepare to celebrate this Holiday Season? If it’s more stressful than joyful, this First Tip for saving your holiday sanity is for you. Let go of perfection and just be yourself!
Printed on March 6, 1943 for The Saturday Evening Post, beloved American artist Norman Rockwell, depicted the “perfect” American family. Maybe you can identify with the generational family gathering, the happy home setting, the traditional feast. If you can, then consider yourself truly lucky. Be grateful for your loved ones, for the place called home, for the feast you are blessed to share. Be especially appreciative if someone else prepared the meal for you!
For many of us this picture of holiday perfection is less then reality. Loved ones don’t live nearby, some have passed on, the word “home” has come to mean much more than a place, and we have to think twice about the cost of purchasing all the trimmings for the meal. Still, no matter what’s going on this holiday, there is much to be grateful for.
The Truth is that even in 1943 life was far less than “perfect.” The difference between then and now is that we don’t have to pretend it is. Letting go of the need to have things be or appear to be “perfect” releases a lot of holiday stress. It’s especially freeing when you can let others see your imperfections and be genuine.
