Say NO to Guilt, Avoid Holiday Madness

Say NO to Guilt, Avoid Holiday Madness

Here’s Something New to Feel Good About Today!

“I have a simple philosophy. Fill what’s empty. Empty what’s full. And scratch where it itches.” — Alice Roosevelt Longworth

“Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.” — Robert Brault

“I am beginning to learn that it is the sweet, simple things in life which are the real ones after all. “ — Laura Ingalls Wilder

If the holidays make you crazy and you’re not clear how it happens, maybe it’s time to do things differently this year. Here’s a suggestion, begin with a KISS!

The acronym “Keep it simple, stupid” certainly applies when you want to avoid Holiday Madness.

Here’s a little of the back story. Kelly Johnson was the lead engineer at the site Lockheed Skunk Works where they created spy planes. He handed his design engineers a handful of tools, with this challenge. The jet aircrafts they were designing had to be repairable in the field under combat conditions by an average mechanic using only these tools.

The word “stupid” refers to the relationship between the way things break and what’s needed to fix them.

In terms of the holidays and keeping your sanity, I’d like to rephrase that to mean keep things as simple as possible to avoid having them break in the first place. What I am referring to is your peace of mind.

I have a tendency to complicate matters; the result is that I often feel overwhelmed, overcommitted and stressed. What works for me is clearing away everything extraneous and getting to the heart of the matter. That begins when I question what I am committing to first. When I determine what makes sense and feels most comfortable for me before I agree to anything concerning anyone else, everything seems to fall into place. It’s really that simple!
