Be Kind To Yourself and Others

Be Kind To Yourself and Others

Here’s Something New to Feel Good About Today!

Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible. Dalai Lama

To build greater self-esteem, begin with kindness. If you ever use critical, judgmental or harsh words with yourself, consider it time for a positive change. Today speak to yourself with only uplifting and empowering words. Compassion toward yourself will lead to compassion for others.

In my experience, critical people don’t like themselves very much. They look for flaws and shortcomings and always find them, in others and especially in themselves. I know because I used to be one of them.

I tend to be very hard on myself but as I become more aware of my own behavior, I am learning to have a lot more patience and compassion for my short comings. Low self-esteem shows up for me when I over work, cause additional stress by worrying about things I have no control over, and create inner dialogue that is self-effacing and disempowering.

It’s a process to nurture myself and treat myself with more compassion. Instead of pushing to do that extra load of laundry after a long day, I let it wait till the next day. I no longer expend energy on things that are beyond my control. Most importantly, I speak in an empowering dialogue to myself and rely on close friends capable of offering me kindness, support and encouragement.

It’s impossible to build strong self esteem when I use words that pull myself down. Non-acceptance and self-doubt erode feelings of self-worth. It’s up to each of us to treat ourselves with loving kindness because then others will know that we are worthy of being treated well and they may want to learn from our example.

We can all practice daily kindness on ourselves and each other. When you see something you don’t like about yourself or someone else, accept it as a part of being human. Some things don’t need changing they simply need to be offered some time for gentle healing.
