Happy Chanukah, Adam Sandler – Original Hanukkah Song Video
Here’s Something New to Feel Good About!
Chanukah, or Hanukkah, which ever way your choose to spell it, is one of the most joyful of all the Jewish holidays! Known as the festival of lights, you don’t have to be Jewish to join in the celebration. Indulge and have some potato latkes, light some candles, hug someone and let’s all welcome the winter season together.
For me, Chanukah has always marked the ending of the year while it holds tremendous promise for the new year ahead. For that reason, I love the candle lighting ritual and the meaning it holds. The flickering candles used to light the Menorah remind me that all people have the right to live according to their own beliefs and values. Most of all, I believe that miracles do happen!
Traditionally, Hanukkah lasts eight days. This is attributed to the legend of the miracle of the oil. When the Maccabees were victorious and returned to Jerusalem to rebuild the Temple, they found only enough oil to last for one night. A miracle occurred and the oil lasted for eight days until a new supply was provided. The Jewish people struggled to live their lives and to maintain what was most precious to them, their freedom and religious beliefs. Even today, across the globe, the struggle is still not over.
Hanukkah summons us to work for the noble dream of peace among all peoples. In the spirit of friendship, let’s appreciate people of all kinds, whether they be Jewish, Christian, Muslim or any other religion. Our traditions may differ but in the end we are all simply human beings meant to join hands this holiday season and love one another.
